Create API Key

How to Create and Manage an API Key#

An API key is the credential your application, terminal tool, or project uses to access MoteAPI services. To keep your account secure, we recommend creating separate API keys for different projects, environments, or team members, and storing them properly.
Follow the steps below to create a new API key.

API Key Creation Process#

1. Go to the Console#

After logging in to MoteAPI, go to the console homepage:
https://moteapi.com/dashboard/overview
In the left navigation bar, find and click the API Keys menu item.

2. Start Creating a New Key#

On the API Keys management page, you can view the keys already created under your current account, including their status, quota usage, and related restrictions.
Click the Create API Key button on the page. The system will open the creation dialog.

3. Set an Easy-to-Identify Name#

In the creation window, set a name for the new API key.
A clear name helps you quickly identify what the key is used for later, making troubleshooting, usage tracking, and regular cleanup easier.
Naming suggestions:
Name by project: Official Website Chat Assistant, Internal Test Project
Name by environment: Production, Testing, Local Development
Name by member or device: Zhang San Development Key, MacBook Pro

4. API Key Usage Settings#

If you do not need to limit the API key quota, restrict API key channels, or restrict available models, you can leave these options unchanged.

1. Set an API Key Spending Limit#

You can set a spending limit for a single API key to control how much quota the key can consume and avoid excessive costs caused by abnormal requests.

2. Restrict Available Models for an API Key#

You can restrict which models a specific API key is allowed to call. After this is configured, requests made with that API key can only call models within the allowed range.

Limits and Notes#

To ensure platform security and reasonable resource usage, we set a default limit on the number of API keys.
Default limit: Each account can have a default maximum number of active API keys.
Increase the limit: If your business needs more API keys, please contact our customer service team. We will evaluate your needs and adjust the limit for you.
After creation, you can configure the API key in your application, CLI tool, or server-side environment variables. Do not write API keys into public repositories, frontend code, screenshots, or logs.
